Need Cash? Sell Your Baby’s Name
So much for the sacredness of naming your child!
In an economically unstable world where nearly everyone is struggling to make ends meet, one California woman is taking advantage of an offer of $5,000 – all she needs to do is let the public name her soon-to-be-born baby.
More than 80 women have joined a contest hosted by the people behind the popular Belly Ballot game played at baby showers for years, offering up that chunk of cash in exchange for allowing the public to vote on their baby’s names, including Natasha Hill, a California art teacher.
The only rule? In order to cash in, each mom must legally name their child whatever name has been voted the best.
Hill, who says that she thought “it was a really cool idea,” has been making the news for her out of the ordinary approach to baby naming, but the response has been mostly positive. Her fiance has been less enthusiastic in interviews, but he is no less committed to the public’s decision. The whole thing feels generally wrong to me.
Any takers on the over/under of when we’ll be hearing about kids named Coca-Cola and Monsanto?
